Sources of Vitamin B12 – Where Do You Get Your Vitamin B12 From?
I read an article the other day by Dr. Mercola about vitamin B12 and how it keeps your brain young. Apparently tests indicate people with low vitamin B12 levels have a decrease in brain volume. It seems there are a lot of health risks for people having low levels of B12, and finding sources of vitamin B12 is important.
I actually had never read anything about vitamin B12 before, or if I had read it I don’t recall. It appears that this vitamin is very important though, as it is needed for absorption of food, carbohydrate metabolism, helping your body use iron, and the health of your nervous system as well as promoting nerve growth, boosting immunity, boosting energy, helping circulation, and providing support for concentration and memory.
Yep it does a lot! Evidently those that do not consume meat or any animal products are at most risk of being deficient in vitamin B12. Vegetarians and vegans are often low in this vitamin.
Anyway, after reading the article I started wondering if raw milk contained vitamin B12, and lo and behold, why yes it does! Before I saw that I was thinking I was going to have to find a supplement that contained this vitamin. But no worries. I’ll just keep drinking raw milk and no need to look for other sources of vitamin B12.
However, if you are not drinking raw milk and have no plans to in the future, and especially if you don’t eat too much meat, you might consider having your B12 level checked and maybe finding a supplemental source but remember there is no replacement really for real and natural foods, so if possible get your vitamin B12 from a natural source rather than a supplemental source.
