Raw Milk – Just Say Yes
I’m certain that everyone who has read my previous posts has now gone out and either bought a cow, bought a share in a cow, or found a nearby farm of dairy cows and asked the owner kindly to supply them with some raw milk.
No? You haven’t done this? Why? I believe I mentioned previously how we are now cold and sickness free in our house. Isn’t that a good enough reason.
I am going to ramble here for a minute and then I’m off to bed. I am a night owl but this is a little late even for me. I just went out and put our cow out in the pasture and checked on the horses, also gave them their midnight snack (a little past midnight). My animals are spoiled, yes they are.
After milking, we always put the milk into the freezer for about an hour or so to cool it down quickly. I totally forgot the milk tonight and it froze to a solid block. Anyone need a solid block of milk in a glass jar? Well luckily it has pretty much gone back to normal now. We’ll see if it is still tasty. If not, my dogs will enjoy it. This is actually the second time I’ve done this, but I’m surprised it hasn’t happened more often. I tend to be forgetful and unorganized.
Tomorrow I’m going to be making mozzarella cheese with some of the extra milk hanging around in the fridge. We’ll be weaning the calf soon too, and that means even MORE extra milk. I’ve got to find out some other things to make. Next on the list to learn is ricotta, then I’ll make some pasta in my bread machine and combine everything into a nice manicotti dinner. Oh, could make some bread in the machine too, that would go nicely.
I hope some of you lovely readers have checked out your local supply of raw milk so that you can join in the fun.
I’m off to get some sleep.
